I had always heard the word resilience but did not realize that it was a major part of my life or how it was woven throughout my story until I was awarded for instilling resilience into the lives of others.
In 2019 I had been a Camp Counsellor at Eagles Nest Ranch and invested my whole heart and soul into the campers in my care that summer. Kids of all ages and circumstances came to these camps and I was privileged to journey with them and to help them realize that what they were currently experiencing was not the end of their story. In fact, they had a CHOICE in the outcome of their story. They could let the circumstances they were facing destroy them, and cause them to lose hope or they could use it to learn from and as a catapult into something new.
I had no idea the impact I made in two young women's life until I got a call from the Medicine Hat Resiliency Committee saying they wanted me to come to Medicine Hat City Hall. In their schools, these girls had an opportunity to write about someone who made a significant difference in their lives and they wrote about me. I was being called to Medicine Hat because they were having an awards ceremony and wanted to honour me for encouraging resiliency in the lives of those I met.
What I had not realized was that my simple encouragement in these young girls' lives was setting them up for success in their later lives. I was teaching them resilience without even realizing it. It was just something that I thought was natural. I had a mindset that no matter what comes my way I will not let it take me down. No matter how many times I fail I will get back up again. Every perceived setback is just a setup for something new or better. It was this mindset that helped me overcome many challenges in my younger life.
Resilience is not something that only the select FEW have. It is something that is within all of us. It only needs to be discovered, the layers peeled back to reveal the tenacious, courageous warrior that is within all of us. You do not have to be overcome by your circumstances but you can overcome them. YOU ARE RESILIENT! I love helping others realize their true selves. The part of them that does not take failure as an option. The part that refuses to give up. It's time to discover that part of who you are so that you can overcome even in the most challenging circumstances.
Join us this month as we talk more about resiliency and how you can discover it in your
own life. We meet on the first Thursday of each month via Zoom to discuss important topics and this one will be one that you won't want to miss. Come be inspired, encouraged and equipped to step into resiliency in your own life. It is a CHOICE and you can choose today to overcome.
