Much like the margins on a page, we need to have margin in our lives. The margins on the page are the space you do not write in. It makes the words written easier to read. Have you ever read something that was written to the edges of the pages without margins? I have, it is exhausting. Not only are my eyes sore and tired, but my brain is fried and needs a rest.
In life, we tend to fill up every second of our lives with something. Netflix, social media, games, movies, exercise, recreational activities, sports, work, school, church, friends, family, housework, yard work, and the list goes on. The one thing we tend to miss is time to ourselves. time for rest and relaxation to become refreshed and renewed. Even when we finally do schedule some time for ourselves, if something happens we give this precious time away in order to make time for it. These things that come up are probably important, but there was not enough margin to protect your time.
Creating margin is making the time for ourselves sacred. Nothing gets scheduled over it, nothing interferes with it, and if something important comes up then that sacred time is found in another place in the day. It becomes like the beautiful white margins of a page, untouched and undisturbed. What we do with this sacred time is up to us.
